That's a good looking spot. I haven't noticed the turkeys around my place lately. I found they've moved over to the river. About 5 miles away I guess they know the season is coming.

Turkeys are in and out of this area as well.....I've seen sign and always check base of the oak trees for feathers and dusting spots...I'm hoping hunting pressure from other areas will move some in...Pellets006.jpg

Them moving in is always a good possibility as soon as the season opens. But their numbers increase rapidly on their own unless the coyote, fox, bobcat or feral cats prey on the young.

I'm hunting two areas..one is on my friends indian reservation..(.that is prime territory)...so I'll have a week in one with my friend and a week in the another area.....coyotes are an issue somewhat in both areas...and mountain lions on the reservation..he lost two dogs recently...his reservation is between two lakes about 8 miles apart.....huge area loaded with game...

I'm not even sure he would have to get a depredation permit to remove those mountain lions for a reservation. Might be worth doing that to improve the hunting.

For the first time in the history of San Diego hunting, deer season overlaps with turkey season. This is why I'm avoiding weekends,as deer season ends on same day as turkey season. I'm going out tomorrow,Wed & Thurs to avoid the deer hunters....I had anticipated this and the area I'm turkey hunting no one hunts there Mon-Friday...I have another area for next week if this first area does not pan out...A good thing is it rained today...so ground should show tracks/sign better...and wind will be back to normal....

Man...this has been frustrating....my first two areas have blanked out for turkeys...to much pressure resulting from weekend deer hunters scattering turkey flocks...My last hope is an area that deer hunters hardly get into from a tip I got from a friend...very remote, but supported by the right habitat and springs(water)...and is in Cleveland Nat'l Forrest....7 days left....LOL...
